Fargo Xeriscape Project
The U.S. Burean of Reclamation has a responsibility to help improve water resource management and the efficiency of water use in the western United States. The bureau recognizes that cooperative efforts with partners facing similar challenges can produce more efficient solutions, so it is pursuing several cooperative demonstration projects of landscape water conservations. They are collectively called the National Xeriscape Demonstration Project (NXDP).
Fargo is one of five cities across the United States that is involved with the NXDP; others are Austin, Texas; Phoenix, Arizona; Las Vegas, Nevada; and Denver, Colorado. The joint venture began in 1996 and is scheduled for termination in 2006.
Specifically, the NXDP is designed to develop data on the cost, yield, and reliability of landscape water conservation from the application of Xeriscape landscaping.
