Xeriscape Demonstration Garden

The City of Fargo's Xeriscape Demonstration Garden is located at 435 14th Avenue South, on the north side of the water filtration plant. Groundwork for the garden began in the fall of 2000, with the majority of the plants being installed in the spring of 2001. Located throughout the garden are interpretative signs that will lead the visitor through the site and offer a little bit of insight as to the principles of xeriscape. Additionally, most key plants have labels identifying their common name, scientific name, flower color, bloom time and height and width characteristics.

The garden is laid out in six distinctive areas (PDF file). These areas include:

  1. Moderate water use species
  2. Low water use species
  3. Very low water use species
  4. Riparian demonstration
  5. Prairie demonstration
  6. Alternative lawn demonstration
