Organizing a block party in your neighborhood

The Fargo Police Department hopes your block party will be a safe and successful event. The following guidelines will help you avoid some problems.

Closing your street

Check with your neighbors to make sure they don't object to the street being closed. The street that is closed must be barricaded at both ends to discourage vehicular traffic. Four barricades will be required. Contact the Fargo Street Department at 241-1453 to reserve the barricades.  The barricades should be picked up prior to 3:00 PM the day of your party. Please keep in mind the street must be reopened at sunset.

Keep the peace

Be a good neighbor and make sure your block party doesn't disturb the surrounding area. Residential neighborhoods have an expectation of peace and quiet, particularly between the hours of 10 p.m and 7 a.m. Unreasonable noises are not allowed. Please be respectful of your neighbors. Please clean up after your block party and dispose of any litter.

Avoid alcohol

Do not include alcohol in your plans for a block party. It is difficult to control parties where alcohol is involved and could result in your block party being terminated and arrests being made. It is against the law to drink alcohol in public, dispense alcohol without a license, or for people under 21 to consume or possess alcohol.

Inviting an officer

If our staffing levels allow, we would be glad to have an officer stop by your party to talk with you and your neighbors. The officer can talk about your neighborhood's concerns and offer crime prevention tips.
