How to Use the Catalog

Searching for an Item

  1. Go to www.fargolibrary.org and locate the Catalog Search box.
  2. Begin searching by typing a keyword, title, or author into the blank search bar and click Search.
  3. To refine your search, click on one or more options on the left side of the results.
  4. For more information about an item, click on the title.

Renewing an Item

  1. Click on My Library Account to sign in.
  2. Enter your 14-digit library card number, located on the back of your Fargo Public Library card, in the Library Barcode or NDUS Account field.
  3. Enter your last name in the Password field.
  4. At the top of the screen, click on My Account.
  5. Click on Renew this under the item you wish to renew.
  6. A Renew Response box will appear that shows the new due date.
  7. If Renew This does not show under an item, or if the Renew Response box says Renew Failed, the item can not be renewed.

Placing an Item on Hold

Only items owned by the Fargo Public Library can be placed on hold.

  1. Click on My Library Account to sign in.
  2. Enter your 14-digit library card number, located on the back of your Fargo Public Library card, in the Library Barcode or NDUS Account field.
  3. Enter your last name in the Password field.
  4. Type in a keyword, title, or author and click Find. Refine the search as you wish.
  5. Click on either the title of the item or the words Available or Unavailable.
  6. To place the item on hold or to have it shuttled to your branch, click Hold beside the location where the item is available. If it is unavailable at all locations, choose any library.
  7. On the Hold Request box, select your pickup location from the drop-down menu.
  8. Click Create Hold Request.
  9. A letter or email will be sent to you when the item is available for pickup.

Placing an Interlibrary Loan Request

Use this feature to borrow items from libraries outside the Fargo Public Library system.

  1. Click on My Library Account to sign in.
  2. Enter your 14-digit library card number, located on the back of your Fargo Public Library card, in the Library Barcode or NDUS Account field.
  3. Enter your last name in the Password field.
  4. At the box that says Fargo Public Library use the drop-down menu to select All Libraries.
  5. Type in a keyword, title, or author and click Find.
  6. Click on the title of the item in the list to view the full record of the item.
  7. Click Request on the line under the full record.
  8. On the Interlibrary Loan Request box, select your pickup location from the drop-down menu.
  9. Click Create ILL Request.
  10. A letter or email will be sent to you when the item is available for pickup.
