Collection Development - Periodicals
The materials included in the Periodical collection include periodicals in print, microform and online periodical databases. The local newspaper The Forum is available on microform from its beginnings in the late 1800s. The New York Times and other standard titles are available on microform dating back to 1960 and earlier.
Standard indexing tools (online and print) are made available to assist our customers in their search for periodical information. The collection is supported by general and subject-specific standard indexing tools. Online databases that include some full-text sources are made available through cooperative arrangements.
A broad range of subject areas are covered in the periodicals collection. Magazines about subjects of general interest such as business, sports, homemaking, current events, fashion, science, hobbies and subjects of particular regional interest are included within the collection.
Specific information on the retention schedule for periodicals can be found in the Fargo Public Librarys Serials Policy.
The newspaper collection includes newspapers from major cities, but the primary focus is on regional newspapers.
