You either love them or you hate them is a saying that we think of when talking about this group of tree.  Crabapples generally get a worse wrap than what they should.  Yes, some do make a mess every fall, but some of the new varieties have fruit that clings on late into the winter (birds usually eat them before they fall) or they produce little to no fruit at all.
