HeartSafe Fargo Program
Sudden cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death in the United States. Immediate treatment is critical to the survival of a person suffering cardiac problems. It is said that a person's chance of survival decreases by 10% every minute intervention is delayed. Having an automatic external defibrillator (AED) and someone trained to perform CPR in your business increases the odds that a person suffering cardiac problems will survive.
To achieve this, the Fargo Fire Department partnered with Essentia Health in 2011 to develop the HeartSafe Fargo program. The program has 3 goals:
- Increase the number of AEDs in local businesses
- Increase the number of people trained to perform CPR and use an AED
- Create public awareness of the locations of AEDs in the community
