Commissioner Williams called the meeting to order at 4:00 PM.
1. Vocational Training Center Winter Parking Concerns – Scott Burstfield
Vocational Training Center (VTC), which aids individuals with varying disabilities find employment, has concerns that the no parking on one side of the street from November through April will leave them without enough parking. Scott said that VTC has 40 fulltime employees and services about 70 individuals with disabilities. They have only 7 off street parking spaces and everyone else utilizes on street parking. They are asking to be able to park on both sides of the street during the day. The committee was concerned about removing snow because VTC is located in a residential neighborhood they would not be able to remove snow overnight. Ben Dow volunteered to go out to VTC in order to get a better idea of their situation and the committee will discuss this item again in September.
2. Traffic Concerns on East Gateway Cir – Dean Hulse
Dean, who lives in a cul-de-sac off of East Gateway, has safety concerns because of speeding cars on that street. He requested a stop sign at the intersection of Villa Drive and East Gateway Circle and for the city to look into other ways to help with the situation. April Walker stated that stop signs are used to assign right of way and are not effective traffic calming devices. Traffic Engineering will install radar counters to collect car volumes and speeds in order to get a better idea of what the conditions are on East Gateway later this month. The committee will revisit this issue at September’s meeting.
3. 13th Ave S, 19th Ave N and NP Ave Project updates – Jeremy Gorden
Update on 13th Ave S, 19th Ave N and NP Ave projects which are scheduled for construction next summer by Jeremy Gorden. 13th and 19th Avenues will be contracted out to consulting firms to do the design and construction management.
4. Other Business
Mike Williams stated that there is a new pedicab business on Broadway. It will be starting business later this month and will work from tips.
