Drain 27 Flood Risk Management
Prior to the 2011 spring flood, the City of Fargo installed temporary earth levees in seven undeveloped locations along Drain 27. The total length is approximately 9,500 feet. During the summer of 2011, the City converted the temporary levees to permanent levees. The low bidder for both of these projects was Asplin Excavating with a combined bid total of $1,033,349.40. Both projects were substantially completed in 2011.
Converting these levees to permanent reduces the City’s reliance on emergency measures during a flood along with reducing the cleanup and repair costs associated with an emergency flood fight.
