Business Licensing

The city does not require business licenses for every type of commerce, but the Fargo Municipal Code does require a city license for the businesses listed below.

You can apply for a license by filling out an Business License form or Occupational License form and remitting it to the Auditor's Office.

Kennel Dec. 31 $35/year
Limousine Dec. 31 $50/year for first vehicle; $15 for each additional vehicle
Master Heating Varies $125/year
Master Plumber Dec. 31 $125/year
Pawn Broker Dec 31 $250/year and $5,000 bond. First time pawn broker also requires initial fee plus $250 investigation fee
Second Hand Dealer Dec 31 $250/year and $5,000 bond. First time second hand dealer also requires initial fee plus $250 investigation fee
Sidewalk Builder Varies $125/year and $25,000 bond
Sign Hanger Varies $125/year
Taxi Cab Dec. 31 $50/year for first vehicle; $15 for each additional vehicle

Other required licenses

Separate applications are required for the following business and activities: 

  • Alcohol
  • Automotive service station (full or self-service)
  • Bulk oil plants
  • Businesses that display sexual devices
  • Re-roofing
  • First Time Pawn Broker
  • First Time Second Hand Dealer
